We are aware of the hot and sunny weather in the forecast and want to reassure you that Mendip Adventure has robust procedures in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants during Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.

Our guidelines for managing expeditions in high temperatures include the following measures:

  • Hydration and Shade: All participants will be required to carry sufficient water. Extra water will be made available at checkpoints, and shade will be prioritised wherever possible.

  •  Expedition Adjustments: Instructors may adjust routes or timing to avoid the hottest parts of the day, and reduce physical exertion wherever necessary.

  • Clothing and Sun Protection: All participants will be briefed to wear hats, loose-fitting, light clothing with long sleeves and trousers, and to apply sunscreen regularly.

  • Dynamic Risk Management: Our experienced instructors will continuously monitor group wellbeing and adapt plans as needed using dynamic risk assessments.

The safety of students remains our top priority. While the weather will present a challenge, we are confident that with these precautions in place, all young people will have a safe, rewarding, and memorable expedition experience.
